Rough Edges Brewing To Open In Former Waynesboro News Agency Building

What was once the Waynesboro News Agency building will soon be home to Pennsylvania’s latest craft brewery; Rough Edges Brewing. The brewery will be opening soon at 91 West Main Street in Waynesboro, PA.

The couple behind the brewery, Wes and Casey Phebus, are husband and wife and started out like most in the industry do, with a passion for homebrewing. To date, they have brewed over 50 recipes of their own. Wes has been brewing for over 4 years and has spent the past 2 years as the head brewer at Something Wicked Brewing in Hanover, PA. Casey is the business manager and also works full time as a loan officer with BB&T Bank.

Both are local to the area having graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School each. As such, they are both passionate about helping in the effort to bring life, business, and fun back to downtown Waynesboro.

The 3,500 square foot, 5 barrel brewery will be complete with a taproom serving beer off of an 11 tap draft system. The brewery will also offer Pennsylvania made wine and spirits to complete the libation experience.

Built in the civil war era the building was most notably home to the former Waynesboro News Agency dating back more than 80 years ago. The couple has done as much as possible to keep the theme as vintage and has repurposed many of the original materials during the renovations. Wood from the former bowling alley in the back of the building was used for the tables within the space.

The brewery stripped off as much paint on the walls as possible revealing the original tin which is tinted blue and silver from heat exposure over the years. Capping off the revitalization is the gorgeous neon sign that we got working that still bears the name of the news agency.

Scheduled to open in early February the brewery will be open from Thursday to Sunday on a weekly basis. From 4:00 – 10:00 on Thursday, 2:00 – 10:00 Friday, 12:00 – 10:00 Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 – 5:00.

As Wes and Casey shared with us, they have a passion for good beers across all styles and have worked hard to restore one of their hometown gems to showcase this passion. They are proud to be the first brewery in Waynesboro. See their growth first hand by following them on their Facebook and Instagram social media pages.
