Hop Daddy’s Sent Cease And Desist; Prompting Name Change To Brü Daddy’s

It hasn’t been long since Hop Daddy’s Brewing opened in Allentown, PA back in November of 2019. And big changes are already coming to the Lehigh Valley brewery.

According to a report by the Morning Call, the brewery formerly known as Hop Daddy’s will soon be operating as Brü Daddy’s Brewing Co.

The change comes from the Texas-based restaurant Hopdoddy Burger Bar. The chain restaurant, which operates many franchises across seven states, claimed the Hop Daddy’s name violated its trademark.

“Given that there is only one letter difference in the names and the fact that there were two examples about marketplace confusion, we just felt that it was a battle we couldn’t afford to fight,” Rich Ryan is reported as confirming the change. “Any time you get into litigation of that nature, it could easily be hundreds of thousands of dollars later until an outcome is decided. We’d rather put our resources into growing our business — not fighting a battle. Plus, there are no guarantees that if we’d fight that we would even win.”

While the name will undergo a change, the branding will remain mostly the same. The brewery may have not opened long ago, but the brand loyalty in the Lehigh Valley is growing tremendously. “To help make the name change as smooth as possible, Chandler [owner of Hopdoddy’s] is assisting the Ryans with funding needed for new signage, kegs, menus, staff uniforms and more” the report goes on to say.

The brewery will debut the new Brü Daddy’s name on March 14th, in celebration of a scheduled St. Patrick’s Day party. During the party, the brewery will debut an updated menu, new beer release and the grand opening of their outdoor beer garden.
