Grand Opening: Sign Of The Horse Brewery October 22nd (Hanover)

Craft Beer in York County grows by one more as Sign Of The Horse Brewery officially opens on Tuesday, October 22nd.  Join them at their brewery at 979 York Street in Hanover as they become the latest to open in the keystone state.

As the brewery says “to honor the great history of Hanover, we have chosen the name ‘Sign of the Horse’. Sign of the Horse was one of the first taverns in Hanover in the late 1700’s. Thomas Jefferson stopped at the tavern on his way to draft the Declaration of Independence (seemed pretty important). George Washington has also made a visit to The Sign of the Horse tavern.”

The brewery will offer a tap list of 8 beers, with a focus on brewing drinkable session ales and hop forward IPA’s. Plus they have partnered with Grand Illusion to offer cider options as well.

Spearheading this space is brewers Jesse Mills and Matt Moore. As their bios on Sign Of The Horse site states Jesse was “born and raised in South Central Pa, Jesse comes to us with a passion for creating highly drinkable craft beer. Prior to brewing professionally, Jesse spent the better part of a decade homebrewing 100’s of batches of random beer styles out of his garage, some of you may know of him as “South Mountain Artisan Ales” as well as a member of the “All Grain Gangsters” (homebrew club).”

Matt “comes to Sign of the Horse Brewery from Timonium, MD. He has been a prolific homebrewer for the past 25 years. An IPA lover and hophead; his hop obsession spread to his home as he even grew and harvested his own hops. Over the years his ales have been appreciated by friends and family as he provided kegs for a variety of parties and celebrations, or even to address the crisis of a friends’ empty kegerator.”

The brewery believes they will be able to provide a comfortable environment for the local, tight knit community to enjoy a quality hand crafted beer alongside locals.

As you can see, the beer is not the only hand crafted items. The brewery was built by hand to meet the needs and feel of the space the owners were looking for.
