Recently we brought you the news that New Jersey’s Source Brewing would be expanding into the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The brewery is anticipating an opening this summer, in August.
We spoke with co-owner Greg Taylor, to get more details on their upcoming expansion.
The new location for Source Brewing will be at 1101 Frankford Avenue in Fishtown. Many craft beer fans will recognize this as the old Fishtown Brewpub, which closed in November 2020 in the midst of the pandemic. The building can seat around 90 people including the large U-shaped bar, with the outside beer garden seating around 50.
The brewery will be completely redoing the current draft system and rehabbing the 7bbl brewhouse and 7 fermenters that are currently in the building. The plan is to have a 20+ tap system with different taps (side-pull taps, nitro taps, and more), to deliver a wide range of beers that Source is known for. They will also be offering local PA spirits and wine and will be featuring many Philadelphia local businesses.
In talking with Greg, he mentions their goal is to “Curate an ideal drinking experience and drink from the source. We want to be the brewery where people enjoy their favorite styles, while also helping others rediscover their love for beer, or a certain style”. The regular can releases that they are known for in NJ, will also be made available in Philadelphia.
Source will also have a full kitchen in the location, and as Greg says, “will have well thought out food that is complementary to the beer. Some comfort food, some shareables, and some small plates with charcuterie”.
They will be working with Kenny Cuomo, a restaurant consultant know for his work in Philadelphia. He has worked with a ton of successful restaurants in the past to bring space to life.
In addition to this expansion location, Source Brewing will be upgrading their Colts Neck space, more than doubling fermentation there for their 10bbl system.
