Brewery Preview: Tilt’em Back (Chalfont, PA)

The Bucks county craft beer scene continues to expand with the expected opening of Tilt’em Back Brewing. We recently visited the future brewery, which is located at 205 E. Butler Ave. in Chalfont, and learned more about what the area can expect.

We visited with co-owners, and brothers, Mike and Jeff Hastings to better understand the background of the brewery. The 1,200 square foot space offers a very rich history. The building dates back to the 1950’s where it was once the ticketing office for the Forest Park amusement park, as well as a former auto garage.

Handling all of the demolition and construction work themselves, Mike and Jeff have transformed the space into a modern looking brewery that will offer plenty of entertainment. With several TV’s hanging from the wall, and dart boards to the side, Tilt’em Back will be an ideal location for more than just a fresh beer.

However, if you’re coming for just the beer, you are in luck. As we learned Jeff has a professional background in pharmaceuticals, as well as 12 years in homebrewing, which transitions well into the world of brewing science. One conversation with Jeff and it is made apparently obvious that he understands brewing beer well beyond combining ingredients. Instead there is a strong passion of the science behind brewing and how chemicals interact with one another. Beer drinkers in Pennsylvania are in for a treat with the opening of Tilt’em Back.

The brewery will offer 8 taps with crowlering to go options available as well. As Jeff and Mike shared with us they are very big on quality. So much so that the 2.5 barrel brewery even invested in a reverse osmosis machine. (One of the very first we have seen in the Eastern part of the state). Along with traditional beers, the brewery also plans to operate a barrel aging program.

While food won’t be available for purchase within the brewery, there will be options available. The space is connected to Pina’s Pizzeria who will offer food options directly into the brewery. Completing the dining experience will be a full list of Pennsylvania based wine and spirits to enjoy. Outdoor seating and kid friendly amenities will be available as well.

As Jeff and Mike told us, the goal of Tilt’em Back is quite simple. To offer a “warm, neighborly feel with the needs of the customer being the main focus.” It is important to this duo that everyone who walks in be treated fairly while enjoying high quality beverages.

The brewery expects to be open in the Fall of 2019. We will contunue to update as they get closer. To see more of them for yourself make sure to follow the brewery on Facebook and Instagram.
