Wild Boy from Straub Brewery

Wild Boy is an Indian Pale Lager with 5.6% ABV from Straub Brewery out of St. Marys, Pennsylvania. IPLs are becoming a new staple in the industry so any craft beer lover is going to want to know what exactly they are. Essentially it takes the ale yeast used to make an IPA and replaces it with a lager yeast to add what should be a crisper finish while still maintaining that hoppy flair of a pale ale.

This Straub offering may be wild, but it’s also beautiful as it pours to a clear golden color with a dense white head that lingers several sips into drinking. The aroma is a mixture of lighter citrus scents as well as floral, grassy springtime smells.

Straub Adventure

All of the citrus aroma leads directly into a hop forward tasting experience with a light-to-medium body won’t overwhelm any tastebuds or burn out those with a delicate palette. The finish is exactly what you would expect out of a lager, it’s crisp, it’s clean and when the weather gets warm it’s perfect for quenching your thirst.

Straub has been successful for a number of years at making what you’d call excellent BBQ in a variety of styles. There’s a clean, distinct taste that pairs well with your favorite variety of smoked meat, whether that’s brisket, pulled pork or some bratwurst.
