2SP Brewing Company was the underdog brewery of the day, the one brewery I was not expecting. My friends and I had decided to go to two breweries that Saturday and after sampling their various concoctions, a third brewery was suggested. Knowing nothing about 2SP, I wasn’t overly excited but we continued anyway and I’m so glad we did.

Located in Aston, PA, 2SP Brewing Company is a young brewery just shy of 2 years old. With a decidedly more industrial ambience than the breweries we had previously visited that day, 2SP stood out from the rest. Th non-pretentious, no fuss atmosphere makes it clear that the beer is their focal point. Their multiple accolades including ‘2016 Best New Brewery’ by Philly Beer Scene and a winner at the 2016 Great American Beer Festival, taking a gold and bronze medal, proves this to be true.

Though we sampled three variations of brews in 2SP’s tasting room, the standout of the entire evening was their coffee porter.   This was the unexpectedly best brew of the day.

Bean’N’Gone Coffee Imperial Porter is a 7.5% ABV brew. Made with Philadelphia’s Green Street Roaster’s Ethiopian blend, the porter had a rich and robust nutty flavor with lingering roasted notes.

Per Michael Contreras, Director of Sales and Marketing for 2SP Brewing Company, the choice of roast was so that the coffee blended in with the porter and didn’t dominate it. “The lighter, Ethiopian roast worked best with our Imperial Porter that had flavors of blueberry….as opposed to darker stronger roasts. The effect is a strong coffee flavor, that doesn’t have the coffee bitterness in the back.”

2SP’s Bean’N’Gone is a part of their “Seasonals, Occasionals, and One-Time Releases” series, offered at their Tasting Room. If you are a coffee-lover like me, you need to check out this porter!
