Straub Helles is a Munich-style helles lager with 5.5% ABV from Straub Brewing Co. located in St. Mary’s, PA. Munich helles are known for a spicier hop profile to go with a malty balance that leads to a clean, crisp, pilsner taste.
This brew pours to wheat, straw-like yellow color with a dense, bright white head that slowly dissolves. You’ll notice an aroma of that’s a combination of malts, flowery hops and some spice. All scents are fairly mild and true to the style that this is a refreshing beer to be enjoyed in multiples, not a dense sipping brew.
Falling in line with this style is the light flavor that starts out with some, but not much malty sweetness alongside a more earthy, cracker quality. A bit spicier than other helles, such as the also excellent offering from Sly Fox, Straub adds a little something extra, giving fans of the style more than enough reason to give this brew a chug.
