Rivertowne IPA’s: Mosaic, Blueberry, Azacca, and Rye

Rivertowne Brewing recently released a quartet of IPA’s each with their own unique flavor profile, in 12 oz. can form available as the Lucky Tap 13, 12 can variety pack. Originally only offered only on the lucky 13th tap at the brewery in Export, PA, you can now bring these home and enjoy each for how different they are. Those familiar with Rivertowne’s Pourhouse are familiar with the rotating mystery 13th tap that offers Pittsburgh beer lovers a leap of faith into a new brew.

The Single Ones

Mosaic IPA – 6.1% ABV

Hopped exclusively with Mosaic this American pale brings all of the lovely citrus aroma you’d expect. Huge scents of grapefruit lead a citrus forward flavor that has tons of hoppy bite on the back end to provide hop heads with their much needed fix of enjoyable bitterness.

Azacca IPA – 6.6% ABV

Azacca is an excellent hop for producing a tropical flavor and that comes through in all aspects in this Rivertowne offering. The aroma is a mixture of mango and papaya with a welcoming springtime scent wafting into the air. There’s plenty of flavor in the Azacca versus the Mosaic, but definitely a more mellow ale that doesn’t quite has as much bite as the other single hop option.

The Fruity One

Blueberry IPA – 6.5% ABV

This brew is made blueberry purée and hopped with Cascade, Centennial and El Dorado hops, all dual purpose hops (aroma and flavor). El Dorado hops are relatively new hops and have a higher Alpha Acid percentage than the others. The blueberry in this is just perfect, and not overpoweringly fruity, with a little bitterness on the finish.

The Heavy Hitter

Rye IPA – 9% ABV

A double IPA coming in at 9% ABV, the Rye IPA is brewed with Calypso and Motueka hops. Calypso is another fairly new dual purpose hop variety, and brings to this this IPA fruit and sap aromas and flavors as well are pepper notes throughout drinking.
