Helles Golden Lager is a German-style lager with 4.9% ABV from Sly Fox Brewing Company. The brewery has its main base of operation run out of the Pottstown based brewery and “tastin room” with a separate brewpub located in Phoenixville.
Helles pours true to its name, golden and gleaming in the sun with a fluffy pearlescent head that rapidly dissipates without much lacing left on the glass. The German pils malt using in brewing comes through with its bright, subtly sweet aroma.
Lager’s flavors are usually crisp, clean, and Helles is no different with defined taste coming through on each swing without lingering too long on the tongue. The mild amount of carbonation and thinner mouthfeel produce a beer that is refreshing, thirst quenching and serves well as a lawnmower brew.
Overall this is an excellent warm weather brew, its low ABV, light body and very low bitterness make it ideal for knocking back a few poolside or using it to wash down a delicious burger.
