Hegemony from Saint Boniface Brewing Company

Hegemony is an 8% ABV/57 IBU Imperial stout from Saint Boniface Brewing Company out of Ephrata PA (Lancaster County). Hegemony’s definition means leadership or dominance, and this beer is as powerful as the name suggests.

Pouring to a dark black color, you will get a big tan head with moderate lacing on your glass. This imperial stouts aroma will impress you with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted malts.

Tasting Hegemony will bring a slight bitterness from the Centennial hops which is pretty well balanced by the malts used. Tasting notes include: milk chocolate, coffee, slight vanilla notes, black licorice and some oat flavors. You will notice a creamy mouthfeel, making this very drinkable and smooth for an 8% stout.

This highly rated imperial stout is billed as “a hybrid between the sweetness of an oatmeal stout and the dryness of an imperial stout”. Try this on tap at the brewery in Ephrata, or try to snag some in cans next time they do a run, as this is available year round.
