Evil Smoosh: Sole Artisan Ales & Evil Twin Brewing Co. Collaboration

by Jack Cubberly

When Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø, owner and brewer at Evil Twin Brewing tried Søle Artisan Ale’s Pineapple Smoosh a couple months back he immediately contacted Joe Percoco who is the owner and brewer at Søle. As Jeppe is one of Joe’s inspirations for brewing, so Jeppe’s offer to brew a collaboration beer was a no brainer. When these two masterminds got together the Evil Smoosh was born.

This double IPA is conditioned on hefty amounts of strawberries, rhubarb and milk sugar making for a beer unlike any other. It pours a deep murky orange with a slight reddish hue from the strawberries. Upon first poor it produces a slight head but like many Søle beers it doesn’t last long. As a product of this interesting blend of ingredients and the vigorous amounts of lemondrop and denali dry hops this intensely aromatic beer gives off smells of overall zest but the strawberries ultimately shine through.

Each sip of this beer gives an upfront sweetness at first that tingles your taste buds. After just a few seconds the sweetness is balanced out by the potent taste of rhubarb, a combination that makes each sip more enjoyable than the last. With this amount of juiciness at 7.8% ABV the Evil Smoosh is another stellar beer from up and coming Søle Artisan Ales.
