Dunkel is a Munich variation of a dunkel lager with 5.2% ABV from Straub Brewing Co. located in St. Mary’s, PA. Munich dunkels are best known for their smooth flavor derived from Munich malts utilized in a beer that isn’t too heavy or dense.
Dunkel pours to a deep ruby brown color, it leaves almost no head other than a trace of khaki carbonation that quickly subsides. Its bold, rich color continues onto its aroma, roasted malt and copper taking the forefront with small hints of toffee and caramel.
Showing true balance the aroma’s strong, forceful notes are followed with an appropriately mellow, light flavor of sweeter toasted bread and biscuit. Its medium body carries the bitterness of noble hop throughout, but not past the finish, it does not linger and produces a crisp, almost dry finish.
