Cage Radler from Victory Brewing Co.

by Nick Andrews

Summertime is no match for the sweet, citrus Cage Radler from Victory Brewing out of Downingtown, PA. Radlers typically combine traditional lager style beers with some sort of soda or ginger brew to form a tasty beverage.

Today, radler beers are most commonly referred to as a shandy. For the 2017 Cage Radler, Victory paired a session beer with a lemonade type soda. The result is a beer that can easily take on any summertime drinking challenge.

Cage Radler pours bright yellow and foggy with a fizzy presentation and quick-dissolving head that’s bubbly and popping. At first sniff, it is impossible to miss the prominent lemon soda influence.

The citrus hits the tongue first, but mellows out for the smooth finish that lagers are famous for. Sugar-based sodas or drinks can leave the drinker with a dissatisfied finish, but with Cage Radler, that smooth finish moves the drinking experience from simple to downright delicious.  That sweet-to-smooth taste rounds off for a satisfying, refreshing beer that is best drank in big gulps and straight out of the ice cold can it comes in.

Despite the easy taste of Cage Ralder, the most fascinating part of this beer is its absurd drinkability. At just 3% ABV and harboring only 90 calories per 12 ounces, this brew provides sweet and slightly tart refreshment for nearly all occasions without leaving you with that bloating feeling some brews are accompanied by.

Cage Radler’s versatility makes it nearly perfect for any protein-heavy meal and almost all salty snacks. From grilled chicken and beans to popcorn and trail-mix, this Victory concoction will cool you off all summer long.
