Brewery Review: Proper Brewing Company (Quakertown, PA)

Located on West Broad street in Quakertown, you will find The Proper Brewing Company. What was once an old Vaudeville Theater (with the original theater stage still intact) has been transformed into one of the areas best locations for craft beer and much more! (And we mean so much more). Let us take you on a guided tour of one of the best eateries and breweries this area has to offer.

We sat down with owner Brian Wilson, who also has lived locally in Quakertown for the past 13 years, to learn more about this great location. One conversation with Brian and his enthusiasm for building a brewery that local craft beer drinkers could be proud becomes very clear. As a long time Quakertown local it is no wonder that when it came time to open a brewery he chose this location.

The beer at Proper is nothing short of amazing, and after trying pint after pint, it is blatantly obvious why they are on the verge of celebrating their 2nd anniversary and not slowing down anytime soon.

Beer

Pictured above is the “Killin’ It 004“, a 7% IPA brewed with pale, wheat and oats. This is their 4th version of their “Killin’ It” experimental series.  Generously dry hopped with Citra, Amarillo and Vic Secret. Features include elements of tropical fruit, herbs and pine with clean notes of pineapple and passion fruit. While Proper has a plethora of beer options, this one is not to be missed!

We also were lucky enough to try the IP Hey (their single hopped, 7% IPA brewed with centennial), the Prop-er Cherry Stout (a 5.8% stout well rested on Ecuador Cocoa nibs and blended with Chocolate Cherry coffee) and the Gabi Wit (a 5% Belgian Wit brewed with German Wheat and Pilsen malt). Each beer left us wanting more. With 12 taps, constantly rotating you will be in for a surprise every time you visit. Check out their current tap list.

The beer is not the only plentiful option you will find at The Proper. While the typical  food menu at a brewery comes off the side of a truck, that is not the case here. Brian clearly set out to not just make this one of the best breweries the area has to offer, but also one of the best locations to get a delicious meal for a night out with family and/ or friends. With close to 40 items on the menu, and wine and cider also available you are sure to enjoy more than just delicious craft beer. Check out the menu for yourself.

When you think of a brewery, having a space where you can host 100 of your closest friends in a private setting is probably not what comes to mind. Not at Proper! Just go through a set of double doors from the bar and you immediately enter their grand ballroom. That’s right, this brewery has its own ballroom!

With seating for roughly 100, a stage for live entertainment, plus a private bar, there is no reason to host your next private event anywhere else in the area.

One visit to The Proper Brewing Company and it will leave you wanting more. Whether it is to try the next line of their “Killin It” IPA series, or wanting to take your family out for a meal that will satisfy all, there is something for everyone here. Brian has clearly created a location that the local community can, and should, be proud of. We highly recommend you get there for a visit. And make sure to take a “to go” container home with you!
