Written By Breweries In PA Contributor Shane Fisher (@Sfish521 & @GoofyFootedBrewingCO)

The Market at the Fareway in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia is a truly unique food market that features fresh, socially-responsible local foods from high quality artisans. The market boasts many options such as locally-roasted coffee, baked goods, fresh produce, seafood, hand-squeezed juice and so much more! You’d think all the bases were covered, but it’s still missing something.

In April 2017, Market at the Fareway got their missing piece, Chestnut Hill Brewing Company. The brainchild of Lindsey Pete and Nick Gunderson was inspired by their favorite pizza place in Minneapolis; Punch Pizza which offered Neapolitan pizzas and craft beers.

While this concept was their inspiration, Nick decided to put his homebrewing experience to work, offering eight hand-crafted beers that are brewed less than 10 feet from their tap lines. Nick took to his experience in construction to design his 2.5bbl brew house to maximize output in the given space, placing fermenters on industrial shelving with his desk and keg washer underneath.

With their small footprint and market setting, Chestnut Hill Brewing Company is a unique brewery experience. Head Brewer Nick Gunderson believes the philosophy: “There is a Beer for Everyone!” and bases his tap list around that mission.

Shake it Out Stout on Nitro

On the snowy evening, their Shake It Out Stout and Mountain Mover Barleywine were perfect for those looking to warm their bones and enjoy a hearty winter beer. For those denying the weather and seeking to enjoy some bright flavors and hops, their Hazed and Confused Pale Ale and Double Double Birthday Double IPA were perfect pairings for those dreaming of better weather. The tap list also included Bronze Blonde Ale and Pastorious Park Pilsner, which were excellent pairings with the pizza and perfect introduction to craft beer for the novice.
